Over the past few months Colchester Zoo has welcomed a number of penguin chicks who have hatched out across our two groups of Humboldt penguins! As they continue to grow healthy and strong many of them have now fledged, losing their fluffy feathers and spending their time learning to swim and eat from the adults in the group!

Many of them are also old enough to have their feathers tested to determine whether they are male or female and we look forward to receiving the results over the coming months. 

With so many eggs hatching this year it was important to keep a close eye on all the new arrivals in the first few weeks and months after hatching and so our team closely monitored them all, weighing the chicks daily to make sure they were growing healthy and strong.
