In 2017, Colchester Zoo’s Action for the Wild continued its support of Save the Rhinos with a donation of £6,294.15. This funding was used to provide 41 rangers at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park with essential First Aid training tailored to the needs of field rangers in the bush and 20 hydrations packs.

In the last decade, more than 1,000 rangers have been killed worldwide when protecting wildlife. Field rangers work extremely hard under very testing circumstances. The issuance of kit and equipment, training, and renovations of ranger accommodation are incredibly helpful in maintaining ranger morale.

In April 2018, Action for the Wild made a further donation to Save the Rhinos of £6,678 which will be used for tactical training for the anti-poaching unit rangers at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and to maintain the canine unit facilities and provide care for the tracker dogs. Action for the Wild has been an active supporter of Save the Rhinos and the ranger team at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park since 2006, having donated over £85,000 to date; such funding is vital to ensuring the effectiveness, and maintaining morale, of field rangers whilst carrying out their vital role in protecting rhino populations.

Find out more about their work and the issues they face in this short video.
