Over the past few weeks Colchester Zoo’s elephants have been enjoying a fantastic new enrichment… aeroplane tyres!
These tyres came all the way from Holland and unlike normal tyres these are much stronger and made of solid rubber. This makes them longer lasting and safer for our elephants to enjoy as they do not have any metal rims.
The tyres have been hung up in our elephant’s indoor area and can be filled with hay and small treats which our elephants have to search for; they can also be knocked and swung around a great activity to keep our elephants engaged!
You can see our elephants throughout the day in both their indoor and outdoor areas or why not pop down during one of our public feeds and enjoy the chance to hand feed these gentle giants yourself!
