Colchester Zoo continues to work hard towards achieving its Green Policy and to find ways to ‘do our bit’ to help the environment whilst also supporting conservation projects around the world affected by pollution through our charity Action for the Wild.

We have recently introduced Belu water to Colchester Zoo which will soon replace the previous bottled water option which we sell for visitors and staff as one of many drink options available. Belu is recognised with the Queens Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. Belu does not export its water making itself 100% carbon neutral and all packaging consists of high recycled content with the use of recycled glass and plastics. Not only is the packaging of this water more environmentally friendly but Belu’s profits are also donated to WaterAid.

Find out more about the work Wateraid does with the money raised through the sale of Belu water here:

As well as Belu Water Colchster Zoo has also changed the straws, cutlery and plastic coffee lids we purchase, now buying only vegware products which are made from PLA. They are certified compostable as the product can break down in under 12 weeks and can be included in food waste recycling. They are all low carbon products that are made by renewable resources, trees, corn and sugar cane - plants not plastic meaning up to 78% less CO2!

This is another step towards achieving our Green Policy and continue to work hard towards only using sustainable and environmentally friendly products.
