We are excited to announce that at the end of July 2018 we welcomed 5 rock hyrax pups! The new arrivals were born to our two females Helga and Hazel just a few days apart! Since their arrival the pups have continued to do well and are growing strong and healthy.

Unfortunately, since their birth our female Hazel has passed away, despite this sad news, our other new mum Helga has stepped in and is now happily caring for all 5 pups and is being very attentive with keepers monitoring them closely.

The rock hyrax is a small, tailless mammal; their appearance is quite similar to a large guinea pig however they are actually more closely related to elephants and manatees!

The rock hyrax is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Why not stop by their enclosure at the Edge of Africa and see if you can spot our new arrivals!
