We are delighted to announce that two of our adult Buffy-headed capuchins, Fabio and Barney have become parents again!

On 29th June, Barney gave birth to a healthy baby. Mum and baby are doing well, with the new arrival spending most of time clinging to mum. The baby is very small at the moment and so it will continue to rely on mum for a while.

familyThe new addition will live alongside mum and dad, as well as the rest of the group including plenty of older siblings to play with!

Our capuchin are fed a mixture of fruit, vegetables and pellets every day and are given hard boiled eggs, cheese and yoghurt as occasional treats!  They are fed 2 or 3 times a day with scatter feeds so they have to spend time searching for their food in the same way they would in the wild.

The Buffy-headed capuchin is currently listed as ‘Critically endangered’ on the IUCN Red list. They have a very limited range which is being reduced due to deforestation and are at a great risk of being trapped for the pet trade or hunted for meat.

It is hoped that Fabio and Barney will continue to breed successfully and help maintain the population of this species within the captive environment.

Why not visit our buffy-headed capuchin group at the old sun bear enclosure and see if you can spot our tiny new arrival!
