On 16th August our herd of Maneless zebra were joined by a new addition, a female who has arrived from Denmark.

This new arrival is mixing well with the exisiting residents of the Kingdom of Wild paddock and gives us a larger group of females for breeding.

When each of these zebra arrived they spent some time settling into their new home before slowly being introduced to the other African species who they now share their home with.Zebra

The Maneless or Uganda Zebra are a managed sub species and this group were looking for holders who had the facilities to house them so we offered to get involved. They are a variotype of the Grants zebra and it is hoped that that they will become a successful breeding group during their time at Colchester Zoo.

The three females Zanta, Anna and Camillia as well as our young male Zebedee shouldn't be hard to miss as they look quite striking without their manes.

The new herd will live amongst some of our other recent arrivals such as the Greater Kudu and our male Ostrich, both of whom arrived this year.

Colchester Zoo is currently the only collection in the UK to hold Maneless zebra so why not visit the 'Kingdom of the Wild' paddock and see if you can spot their stripes!
