On the 12th December Cherry Crowned Mangabey’s Kanye & Suna welcomed their first young together! Both mum and her new arrival are doing very well.

The new arrival can be seen with our pair in their enclosure, Mangabey Mangrove and is beginning to explore the area and learning the ropes of a mangabey monkey! Keepers have since named the youngster Makokou which is the regional capital of the Ogooué-Ivindo province in Gabon.

This species is also known as the Red Capped Mangabey due to the red fur on the top of their head. The rest of the body is black with a dark face and white eyelids.

Cherry Crowned Mangabeys have a throat sac which they use to make loud calls that can be heard over long distances.

See if you can see our small new arrival on your next visit!
