Last week four of Colchester Zoo’s keepers travelled to Cumbria to help out the staff and animals at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis Park following recent flooding in their area!

This small park was severely affected by the high rain fall in recent months and many of their enclosures have been badly damaged meaning some animals could only access the high areas of their outside areas.

Having noticed their appeals for help, a small team from Colchester Zoo went along to lend a hand of a few days’ of solid work; Liam Griggs who works with the animals on our farm section, Kat Smith from our displays team, Jake Muskett who works with our sealions and penguins along with senior keeper David Morgan.

In just three days this small team helped make a huge difference refurbishing the whole lemur enclosure! From clearing rotting wood and debris to setting up all new beams, ropes and nets for the lemurs to enjoy. By the time they left the lemurs were enjoying their newly refurbished enclosure and the team left knowing that their hard work had been more than worthwhile!
