Colchester Zoo hosts location for Sir David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities
The Eden channel has commissioned a second series of their highest rated programme, David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities; produced by Humble Bee Films and presented by Britain’s most popular naturalist, Sir David Attenborough.
Humble Bee Films and Sir David visited Colchester Zoo on the 13th June 2013, to film a piece with their family of Spotted hyena. Colchester Zoo is the only zoo in the UK to house this species, and have successfully bred their adult pair. The topic of discussion is that of their intriguing behaviour of how they are able to crunch through bones, which other animals cannot. It also addresses how the female hyena looks physically the same as the male of the species.
Each episode of the programme features different creatures that have remarkable adaptations, which help them to survive in their natural habitat. From the Spotted hyena to the Komodo Dragon, Sir David’s natural curiosities are endless. The stories within the episodes of this unique programme are sure to captivate and amaze viewers, with extraordinary facts about a variety of magnificent species.
Colchester Zoo’s director Anthony Tropeano said, ‘We are thrilled to be a part of this enthralling documentary and honoured to have Sir David Attenborough filming with our Spotted Hyena.’ Sir David is a true idol to many at Colchester Zoo and has inspired them to pursue a career working with their beloved animals.
David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities is due to be aired in November, but dates are yet to be confirmed.
