Mandrill-babyOn Wednesday 26th February, Mandrill Solomina gave birth to a healthy baby!

The new arrival brings the groups number up to 21 making our Mandrill group the second largest in Europe!

The Mandrill is the largest monkey in the world and the most distinctive with their extremely colourful faces and a bright red behind!

Solomina is a very experienced mother and her baby is proving to be very healthy and well. It has been confirmed that the youngster is a female and her keepers have named her Suki. Suki spent her early days clinging on to mum but she as she continues to grow in size and confidence she is beginning to venture out to explore and play with others in the group.

Their status in the wild is currently listed as vulnerable so Solomina's new arrival is a welcomed addition to the population and to Colchester Zoo!
