Lhoest-babiesOn Friday 31st July, L’hoest monkey Biko gave birth to a healthy baby and on the 24th October the group were joined by another new arrival as Biko’s older daughter Casey gave birth to her own young!

Biko is an experienced mum who has been showing daughter Casey the ropes as they bring up their newest arrivals together!

Both mothers and their young continue to do well with the youngest baby sticking close to mum Casey, whilst Biko’s little one is now nearly 4 months old and beginning to spend more time away from mum and is instead being carried by another young female in the group, Esme who is keen to learn mothering skills of her own!

This second new arrival has joined our five residents L’hoest monkeys. Small groups such as this are common for this species, which are also known as the Mountain monkey.

The group are fed a diet of fruit which is supplemented with primate pellets to ensure they get all the right vitamins and minerals they need.

This species is currently listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to hunting and the deforestation of their habitat.

Find out how you could adopt one of our L’hoest monkeys here.
