On Friday 15th June L’hoest monkey Casey gave birth to a healthy baby. Both mum and her new arrival are doing well with the youngster growing stronger and stronger as the weeks go on.

The latest arrival will be sticking close to mum for some time so keepers are unable to determine the sex of the baby at the moment so until then this cheeky little monkey will be known as ‘baby’. Once sexed keepers will be able to give ‘baby’ a name.

This new arrival joins our five resident L’hoest Monkeys; including Dad Harry and Casey’s previous offspring Mowgli who was born in 2015. Small groups of l’hoest monkeys are common for this species that are also known as the mountain monkey. The group are fed a diet of fruit which is supplemented with primate pellets to ensure they get all the right vitamins and minerals they need.

This species is currently listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to hunting and the deforestation of their habitat.
