On the 10th December 2015 a new male Mandrill called Gismo arrived from Tierparke Ueckemunde, Germany.

Gismo is currently spending some of his time off show whilst gradually being mixed in the main enclosure with the females of the group. Once he is settle into his new environment he will then be able to meet the other males in our mandrill troop!

Despite this gradual introduction, keepers have already noticed some positive interactions between Gismo and the females and we’re looking forward to seeing Gismo meet the rest of the mandrills in time.

Mandrill’s are one of the most distinct monkeys in the world and are famous for their amazing red and blue face that makes them so unique!

Did you know Mandrill’s are in fact the world’s biggest monkey and can grow up to 80cm tall, weighing up to 36kg! The males are much bigger than the females and are also more boldly coloured!
