Our 4 smooth-coated otter pups are continuing to grow and are becoming more confident within our otter family. They enjoy spending their time in the water and playing with their other family members. We confirmed back in July that our otter pups were all female and their keepers have now named them! Introducing Maly, Sophea, Tevy and Srey!

The 4 pups were born on the 17th May to mum Chea and dad Kong-Kea who are both very attentive and experienced parents. The little ones spent their first few weeks in the underground den until their eyes opened at around 4 weeks old.

Since then the pups had been spending more and more time above ground and we caught their first swimming lesson on camera! They are taught by being picked up by the scruff of the neck and dunked into the water, this may been a little rough but the pups are extremely buoyant and this is very natural behaviour!

The smooth-coated otter is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List 2004 due to the loss of suitable habitat.

Why not see if you can spot our pups down at Otter Creek!
