We are extremely excited to announce that we have welcomed a pair of crowned lemurs for the very first time here at Colchester Zoo! Our female Triskie, who is a light grey colour arrived on the 23rd July, quickly followed by our male Ala, who is chestnut brown and arrived on the 26th July.

Since their arrival the pair have been settling into their environment and getting to know each other and their keepers. Last week they joined our red bellied lemurs and our ring-tailed lemurs in the Lost Madagascar walkthrough area and have been getting to know their new neighbours.

The crowned lemur is the smallest species out of all lemurs and as their name suggests, they have a noticeable marking around their face which is similar to a crown. They also have beady bright orange eyes and a long, thick tail.

They are classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, so we look forward to seeing what the future will bring for this new couple.

Why not take the train to the Lost Madagascar walkthrough to see if you can spot them!
