ZOO NEWS
There's always a new story to tell at Colchester Zoo, from welcoming new arrivals, to exciting things to see and discover.
Moth eggs released on to sites across Essex
On the 31st March some of Colcheter Zoo's keepers, along with staff from Natural England and the National Trust, released all of the captive Fisher's Estuarine moth eggs from the Colchester Zoo habitat.
In total 16 batches were placed at Copt Hall, one of the many sites which has been assessed as being a suitable environment for the moths, it is the second year we have released moth eggs into this area. Another 11 batches were also place at Cudmore Grove, East Mersea, it is the first time eggs have been to this site.
Over the coming months we will hope to see signs of caterpillars feeding and adult moths. With the overall aim of the project to see these areas being colonised by the moth naturally.
