Thank you to the Royal Engineer Divers from the Carver Barracks in Saffron Walden who recently visited Colchester Zoo to help clean our sealion tunnel!

The team are a bomb disposal regiment who also have specialist trades within the army including carpentry, plumbing and brick laying. They then have the additional skill of diving, which they use for underwater construction. The team are used to working in fast flowing, deep water with low visibility, so this was a quite a different experience for the divers.

Army sealions

As well as getting the chance to practice their diving skills, they also did a great job helping to clean the acrylic tunnel and windows before getting the chance to meet our sealions themselves!
